Citlali Joyas was founded by Francisco Sánchez Sahagún in 1968 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He learned the trade from his father and went out on his own to open a small workshop where he designed and crafted silver jewelry inspired by pre-Hispanic motifs that evoked the grandeur of ancient Mexico. He found the brand's name in the novel Corazón de Piedra Verde by Salvador de Madariaga, in which the character Citlali tells stories to Xochitl, the daughter of King Netzahualpilli.

Francisco chose the word Citlali because of its meaning—morning star—and because with jewelry he could tell stories.
Little by little and with great patience, we have been adding only original designs made of silver to our jewelry catalog, all of them crafted using artisanal methods, as we trust that the human hand imprints a particular seal that makes each piece of jewelry unique.

Rosana Sánchez, Francisco's youngest daughter, took over as general manager of Citlali Joyas in 2011. She sees it as an opportunity to tell her story.

Rosana is a thoughtful and sensitive woman who finds inspiration in real-life situations. She strives to connect with the most constructive archetypes of humankind, aiming to promote the message of an optimistic, sensitive, and courageous humanity that inspires anyone who wears her jewelry to become ever more authentic.

We reinterpret the values of originality, creativity, honesty, and courage that we live by every day in the company in jewelry designs to which we can give a suggested symbolism, with the absolute certainty that whoever acquires them will assign their own.

We have a great desire that every person may find, in a sensible symbol, the spiritual truth of their being.

Rosana is committed to the new femininity, to society, to important causes, and to her entire team.

She dreams that together we can build a more compassionate, supportive, and loving world.

A Citlali jewel is the expression of universal symbols—with Mexican elements—synonymous with art, sensitivity, and a job well done.
