The Stone That Holds Auroras Inside

Some stones seem to keep secrets of the universe. ✨ Labradorite is one of them.

At first glance it might seem gray, discreet, almost ordinary. But when the light touches it, something happens: electric blues, deep greens, golden and violet flashes emerge from within, as if the stone were waking up. As if it were breathing light.

Its origin: between ice, legend, and depth

Labradorite was officially discovered in 1770 on the Labrador Peninsula in Canada — hence its name. But long before science catalogued it, the Inuit peoples already knew it and had an explanation that perhaps no theory can surpass: they believed the northern lights had been trapped inside these rocks. And watching it shimmer, it's impossible not to understand why.

The phenomenon that makes it unique

That iridescent glow that appears and disappears depending on the angle of the light has a name of its own: labradorescence. It is an optical phenomenon caused by the mineral's inner layers, which refract light in different ways and create a display of colors impossible to reproduce artificially.

No two labradorites are alike. Each one reflects light in its own way; each one holds a different aurora.

Where is labradorite born?

This stone doesn't belong to a single place. It is found in different regions of the world: Canada, Australia, the United States, Russia, Finland, France, Ukraine, Madagascar, and Mexico. Each origin gives it different nuances, but they all share the same inner mystery.

More than beauty: a stone with history

Over time, labradorite has been associated with intuition, protection, and journeys of personal transformation. Different cultures have valued it not only for its beauty, but for what it symbolizes: change, and the ability to reveal something different depending on where you look from.

Because some stones don't just adorn… they also seem to remind us that we, like light, are made to transform. ✨

Labradorite at Citlali

At Citlali Joyas we select our labradorites for the depth of their reflections and their unique character. We look for stones that tell a story — the ones that make someone look and wonder: "what is that shining in there?" That is how pieces are born that don't just complete an outfit, but spark curiosity, start conversations, and accompany those who, like the stone itself, never shine exactly the same way twice.

Discover our labradorite pieces in our boutiques and in our online store.
